2018 Marcus Artist-in Residence: Seda Aybay

Contrast and Layers

 

Seda Aybay will be sharing a choreographic exploration of her pieces and their meaning through discussing the layering of contrasting movement, gestures, light and sound design. 

Turkish/American choreographer Seda Aybay is the Artistic Director of Kybele Dance Theater Founded in 2003 in Los Angeles.  Seda’s works have toured and been presented in LA, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, New York and Turkey.  KDT received awards from McCallum Choreography Festival, Front and Main Festival, MAD BAD Festival, Dance Under the Stars Festival, and RAW.  Seda impacts young dancers through successful college dance auditions and competitions earning them placement in prestigious programs and companies and well as earning herself 2017 Outstanding Choreographer Las Vegas Youth America Grand Prix, 2016 Outstanding Choreographer Los Angeles YAGP and 2015 Elite Original Choreography Awards. 

Seda teaches at Santa Monica College, Yuri Grigoriev School of Ballet and Danceline LA.  Seda Began Ballet in Istanbul completing London’s Royal Academy of Dance exams and graduated Santa Monica College, UCLA and Alvin Ailey program NYC.
