A Video Message to PAD Students, Faculty and Staff

From Jane Lapotaire (the Tony and Olivier Award-winning actress and Honorary Lecturer in the Performing Arts Department

As many of you may remember, Jane Lapotaire (the Tony and Olivier Award-winning actress who has taught here at Washington University, and has been an annual member of our faculty on our Shakespeare’s Globe program) was hoping to visit us this spring in St. Louis. Sadly, a dear friend and mentor of hers, John Barton (whom many of you may know from his book and video, Playing Shakespeare) passed away shortly before her scheduled visit. As a result, Jane had to postpone her trip to visit us.

However, as is typical of her great generosity, she sent us a present. I hope you enjoy her profoundly moving rendering of Sonnet #65 (“Since brass, nor stone, nor earth”).

It was, I know, sent with love and all good wishes from one of PAD’s dearest and most loyal friends.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer!

Henry
