Reserving Studio Spaces

Washington University students and student groups can reserve Performing Arts studio spaces based on their relationship to the department.    

Rules for Space Usage

General rules for all studio spaces

Due to the high demand for studio space, if you end up not needing the space, please cancel your request as soon as possible in the reserve.wustl.edu system, AND email the PAD directly at rjheiske@wustl.edu

•    Students should leave room in the same condition as it was found (THIS INCLUDES FLOOR TAPING.)
•    Upon leaving, students should make sure doors are closed and no windows are left open.
•    Students should leave the studio by the time building closes (12:00 am)
•    Food and drink (with the exception of water bottles/containers) are prohibited.
•    No heavy or sharp objects are to be placed, dropped, or dragged on the floor.
•    Students should be courteous of others rehearsing in the area.
•    Acting blocks, tables, chairs and mats should be returned to the perimeter of the studio 

Olin Studio 1 Rules and Care

•    Dance shoes or bare feet are preferred. (The floors are cleaned every day) No street shoes, tap shoes, or rubber shoes that leave marks on the floor. If you notice the floors are being scuffed, please remove your shoes immediately. 
•    No furniture or large props may be used or taken from the studio.
•    The Women’s Building exterior doors will be locked at 10 pm, please have your WashU ID available to enter the building
•    Capacity is 40-50

Olin Studio 2 Rules and Care

•    Please do not enter the Olin 2 studio through Olin 1. We ask that students use the lower level walk-through or exterior west door to enter Studio 2 so as not to disturb those rehearsing in Studio 1.
•    Street and tap shoes can be used in this studio
•    No furniture or large props may be used or taken from the studio.
•    The Women’s Building exterior doors will be locked at 10pm, please have your WashU ID available to enter the building
•    Capacity is 30-40 

Mallinckrodt 206

•    Dance shoes or bare feet only
•    Only PAD dance students may reserve this space for course work only
•    Acting blocks, tables, chairs and mats should be returned to the perimeter of the studio 
•    Capacity is 8-10

Mallinckrodt 208- A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre

•    Only PAD drama students may reserve this space for course work only
•    Space can be used as is in work lights
•    Acting blocks, tables, chairs and mats should be returned to the perimeter of the studio 

Guidelines for Reserving Space

Reservations should be made at least 2 business days in advance of use.  (i.e., Thursday before 2 p.m. for a Monday request.) 

Mallinckrodt 326 (The Carson Room): is reserved for use by Faculty and Graduate Students only.

Mallinckrodt 206: Only PAD dance students may check out the space for course work.

Mallinckrodt 208 (A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre): Only PAD drama students may reserve this space for course work. Confirmation for use from the professor is required.

Students may check space availability at reserve.wustl.edu.

You must have a WUSTL Key to reserve space.

Your first requests for the semester can be submitted two weeks after the first day of classes. 

Reserving space for PAD class work

•    Space may be reserved in the: 
     o   Women's Building Olin Studios; Olin Studio 1 and Olin Studio 2,
     o   Hotchner Studio/ Mallinckrodt 208, Mallinckrodt 101 can be reserved for Drama student course work. Please contact rjheiske@wustl.edu to reserve this studio.
     o   Mallinckrodt 206 can be reserved for Dance student course work. Please contact rjheiske@wustl.edu to reserve this studio. 
•    Your first requests for the semester can be submitted two weeks after the first day of classes. 
•     PAD students can reserve studio space for course work; any available time between 8 am - 11:59 pm, Sunday - Saturday, 2 hours/day, up to 4 times/week, and up to 4 weeks in advance.
•    Students in higher-level drama and dance courses can receive swipe access to the WB Olin studios, Mallinckrodt 101 and Mallinckrodt 206 for last minute academic rehearsal needs. Please confirm availability on the reserve.wustl.edu website. 
•    Event Services Spaces: Classroom and Standard spaces can be reserved for course work at no charge. In the reservation website students must be a part of a department unit or an assigned student group requester. Please note on your request that this is for the Performing Arts Department; Ryadah Heiskell of the Performing Arts Department will be listed as the requester. We ask that you do not choose a premier space because departments are charged for this usage. 
     o    If you are a student group requestor, please be aware that any hours requested for an event services spaces will be added toward your student group maximum hours in Event Services. 

Reserving space for PAD production rehearsal

•    Space may be reserved in the: 
     o   Women's Building Olin Studios; Olin Studio 1 and Olin Studio 2,
     o   Hotchner Studio/ Mallinckrodt 208,  and Mallinckrodt 101 please contact rjheiske@wustl.edu to reserve these studios.
     o   Mallinckrodt 206, please contact rjheiske@wustl.edu to reserve this studio. Your first requests for the semester can be submitted two weeks after the first day of classes.

PAD students working on special projects

Please submit your request for space no less than 3 weeks in advance of the date needed to the PAD office or email to pad@wustl.edu, which will be reviewed by the department.

PAD Sponsored Student Groups

Rules if you are reserving space for a PAD sponsored group. 
•    Space can reserved in the Women's Building Olin Studios; Olin Studio 1 and Olin Studio 2.
•    Your first requests for the semester can be submitted two weeks after the first day of classes. 
•    Requests can be submitted three weeks prior to your request date
•    PAD sponsored student groups can reserve studio space for rehearsals; in any available times Sunday - Saturday between 8 am - 11:59 pm; 2 hours/day, 6 hours/week, and up to 3 weeks in advance
•   Rehearsal times can be increased for groups with upcoming scheduled performances in the Edison. To schedule increased recurring rehearsal time, please contact the Performing Arts Department at pad@wustl.edu.

All Other Recognized Student Union Performance Groups

•    Studio space can be requested in the Women’s Building Olin Studios; Olin Studio 1 and Olin Studio 2.
•    Your first requests for the semester can be submitted two weeks after the first day of classes. 
•    Requests can be submitted two weeks prior to your request date
•    Student Union sponsored groups can reserve studio space for rehearsals; in any available times Sunday - Saturday between 8 am - 11:59 pm; 2 hours/day, 6 hours/week, and up to 2 weeks in advance
•   Rehearsal times can be increased for groups with upcoming scheduled performances in the Edison. To schedule increased recurring rehearsal time, please contact the Performing Arts Department at pad@wustl.edu.

Reserve a Studio

A WUSTL Key is required in order to check availability and reserve space.
ALL requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance of use. 
Studio requests for Saturday and Sunday are processed by 3:00 pm Friday afternoon. Requests received after that time cannot be confirmed.

What to do if  your door is NOT unlocked

Students should call WUPD 935-5555. If WUPD cannot help them they will contact the card access rep on-call to find a solution. Please have your reservation confirmation available on  your phone.
